Snow White wildly disappoints Disney fans
WED.| 4-23-25 | ENTERTAINMENT
“Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler, was released on March 21, 2025, almost a year after its planned release date as a remake of the original Disney animated film “Snow White.” The original film follows Snow White as she escapes her stepmother, the Evil Queen, to a small cottage with seven mining dwarves, each of them with a different personality.
This major delay was caused partly by the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strike in 2023, and backlash surrounding Zegler from some comments she made about the movie online. Zegler described the original as being outdated and even called the original weird a year before the remake's intended release. I find it odd that Zegler would diminish the first animated movie Disney released that had a big impact on their success as a leading entertainment company. However, Zeglar recently stated it was an honor to play the role of Snow White and gave the production team praise after the movie came out.

After the movie's release, “Snow White’s” rating dropped to one of the lowest-rated movies of the year. Snow White was given an IMBd rating of 2.1/10 and a Rotten Tomato score of 44 percent. With that kind of rating and the widespread backlash towards the movie, I would say that “Snow White” is likely to be the worst movie of 2025. This rating is completely deserved due to the odd pacing of the movie and the lack of that special Disney movie feeling.
Compared to the original, the new "Snow White” didn't feel like a quality Disney movie and ultimately failed my already low expectations. The movie did keep up with the original characters however, it lacked many key emotions from the 1937 version, especially in the dwarves as the use of computer-generated imagery made it difficult for the dwarves to have any expression. The movie also felt rushed and didn't give much time for the characters to develop, the Wicked Queen for example, who was played by Gal Gadot, lacked any actual emotion. Gal Gadot even received criticism on social media for her horrible acting and bad delivery in the movie, which was deserved.
Overall, from the several critic reviews, production delays, and Disney’s track record with bad remakes many people already suspected this movie would be awful. Yet, somehow, they found a way to make the movie worse. The movie did have some good parts, the production crew did an amazing job at recreating the original outfits, but the movie was and will be a flop when compared to the original “Snow White” because it lacks so many of the amazing qualities that the 1937 version had.
In my opinion, Disney needs to stop trying to remake the original movies. Remakes like “Snow White” lack the quality and classic feeling that the Disney originals have, causing them to do horribly in the Box Office and ultimately causing Disney to lose tons of money. I don't recommend that anyone pay to watch this movie until it comes out on Disney Plus or any other platform as it was a waste of money.
